Junk removal is a crew that loads and hauls away what you cannot leave at the curb: furniture, mattresses, appliances, renovation debris, a garage, or a whole property. We take single items through full truck loads across Ottawa and Gatineau, do the lifting, and agree the price before anything goes on the truck. Most cleanouts need a crew because the City of Ottawa collects three garbage items every two weeks, and one couch counts as one item.

A single couch off a third-floor walk-up, one mattress, one fridge. Or a basement, garage, shed, attic, storage unit, or a full house clear-out. Single-item pickups are a normal booking rather than a favour, and either way the load leaves in one visit instead of over six months of garbage days.
The things the City will not collect
The City of Ottawa's Bulky Waste page excludes appliances from collection outright: refrigerators, freezers, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, hot water tanks, oil tanks, and furnaces. Electronic waste is excluded on the same page. None of it is ever a curbside option, so an appliance always needs somebody to come and get it.
Renovation and cleanout debris
Drywall, flooring, cabinets, deck boards, shingles, and the pile in the driveway left over from the reno. Renovation debris is priced by weight, because that is how the landfill scale prices it.
Sorted on the way out, not at the gate
We separate as we load. The City accepts source-separated scrap metal and electronic waste at Trail Waste Facility free of charge, so pulling those out is worth doing every time. Usable furniture goes to donation, and landfill is the last stop rather than the first.
What we will not put on the truck
Asbestos, liquid waste, and household hazardous waste. The City's Trail Waste Facility rates page lists all three as not accepted, along with commercial garbage, and requires oil tanks and drums to be cut in half or perforated. Set those aside and tell us rather than hiding them in a bag.

Price agreed before anything is lifted
We confirm the price on site, once we can see the load and the access, and you approve it before the work starts. Nothing moves on an estimate that nobody has looked at.
We carry it out
You point, we lift. Doorways, stairs, and floors get protected on the way through, and taking a bed frame or a shelving unit apart to get it out of the room is part of the work.
Sorted, swept, and gone
Metal, electronics, and anything still usable come out of the load while it is going on the truck, because sorting after the fact never happens. Then the space gets swept, so you get the floor back rather than an outline of where the pile was.
Three items every two weeks is why the pile is still there.
The City of Ottawa introduced a three-item garbage limit on curbside collection in 2024, and those three items are collected every two weeks. A garbage item means one bag, or one bin under 140 litres and 15 kg with a removable lid, or one bulky item, and furniture counts as a bulky item. So a dresser, a mattress, and a bed frame is the entire fortnight. Anything above the limit has to go out in a City branded yellow bag, and large bulky items and furniture cannot be bagged at all, so they simply do not go, and whatever is left over gets a courtesy tag at the curb explaining why. Carpet has to be tied and bundled to a maximum of 1.2 metres long, 60 centimetres in diameter, and 15 kg, and cardboard boxes are not accepted as garbage containers. Recycling and green bin stay unlimited. It is all on the City's curbside garbage collection page at ottawa.ca, and none of it applies to us, because we are not a collection truck.
What drives the price.
Junk removal is priced on what leaves the property, not by the hour. What moves the number: how much room the load takes in the truck, how heavy it is, how far it has to be carried and how many stairs are in the way, whether anything has to be dismantled to get it out, and where the material is allowed to go. Disposal is the part people underestimate, and the City of Ottawa publishes the figures. For 2026 its Trail Waste Facility Landfill charges $172.70 per tonne for residential garbage, with a flat $43.20 minimum under 250 kg, and $345.40 per tonne for garbage mixed with recyclable materials. Not for the labour. Anyone advertising it is usually taking only the part with resale value. Some material does move for free though. The City accepts source-separated scrap metal and electronic waste at Trail Waste Facility at no charge, plus up to ten passenger or light truck tires per person per day. Charities on the City's own Bulky Waste page, among them Habitat for Humanity and the Matthew House Ottawa furniture bank, take usable furniture. If your item is metal, electronic, or still good, try those routes first.

Sometimes yes, and we will say so. Trail Waste Facility Landfill sits at 4475 Trail Road, off Moodie Drive. It runs Monday to Friday, 7 am to 6 pm, closes Sundays, and opens on selected Saturdays only, which the City lists on its Trail Waste Facility page. Payment at the scale house is contactless, and CSA green patch boots and hi-visibility clothing are required at the main tipping areas. One load and a free weekday is a real DIY job. Four loads on a Saturday is not.
Yes. We work across Ottawa, Kanata, Barrhaven, Orleans, Nepean, Gloucester, and Gatineau. Worth knowing on the Quebec side: access to Gatineau's ecocentres is restricted to defined categories of user, and you have to show both a valid proof of residence and valid identification. The city's fact sheet on by-law 990-2025 also states it reserves the right to refuse construction debris mixed with household garbage.

The City pages behind the collection limit, the sorting rules and the landfill answer above: one sets what three items means and what cannot be bagged, one decides which bin a given object belongs in, and one lists the landfill's hours and the Saturdays it opens. The limit changed in 2024, the Waste Explorer is updated as programs change and the Saturday list changes through the year, so read the City's own page before planning a load around any of them.
